Abstract

The consequences of tin mining activity is the formation large basin-shaped holes filled with water in which the local (Bangka Belitung islands) term is a Kolong or Camuy (lake).  Heavy metal concentrations are still high in all the pit and endangering human health; is the image that is in today's society so that people refused to eat the fish from or doing aquaculture activities in kolong.  Pb heavy metal in the jambal catfish start found in the second month, the month of December 2011 on the kidney and meat measured 0,032 mg/kg and 0,177 mg/kg, respectively.  In the third month (January 2012) Pb is found in almost every organ of jambal above safe levels for consumption, ie 15,39 mg/kg in liver, and 40,56 mg/kg in the flesh. Decrease in water temperature and pH also resulted in an increase of Pb accumulation in the meats of jambal catfish, which amounted to 40,56 mg/kg. During the four months of cultivation, the accumulation of heavy metals Pb that occur in every organ of observation had a significant influence to the growth rate of jambal catfish.  Accumulation of Pb in each jambal catfish organs in the first and second months of cultivation is almost immeasurable but still lowering the rate of growth since the first month.  The jambal catfish body already polluted with the heavy metals, as evidenced by Pb measured in the meats and kidney in the second month of cultivation.

Abstract

The red tilapia were cultivated in kolong (above 30 years age of lake of ex-tin mining) for four month; on the rate of plumbum (Pb) biomagnification in the organs (liver, kidney and muscle), given positif corelation from planktons in instestine composition, and its effects to the growth rate has been investigated. Results revealed that in the third month, accumulation of lead in the organs of both species were increased, especially in their livers, above the safe level to be consumed (62.14mg/kg, 8.41mg/kg and 15.39mg/kg, 55.23mg/kg respectively) but then were decreased in the fourth month. Biomagnification of lead affects the growth rate of both species significantly.

Abstract

The research aimed to analized the environmental characteristics and to evaluate the phenotypes diversity of asian swamp eel from Bangka Belitung islands for basic aquaculture developments. Samples of Asian swamp eel catches were collected from three locations Rias, Bencah and Balunijuk. All of catches was measured of truss morphometrics and sexual distributions. Water quality measurements was conducted in situ at each sample location. The results showed that there is close relationship between asian swamp eel population of Bencah and Balunijuk based on similarities of their phenotypic diversity, but not with  population from Rias. It showed that Asian swamp eel from Bencah and Balunijuk is potential to be cultured, but it must be adjusted with the conditions of physical-chemical  variabel of each locations for the best adapted to culture.
